On 2 August 2021, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) briefed the MPIA Committee members about the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), of which Malaysia is one of the member countries.
During the meeting, MITI provided the latest updates regarding the efforts being undertaken by MITI on determining the way forward for the CPTPP and collected feedback from MPIA about the multilateral free trade agreement (FTA).
CPTPP covers both goods and services, as well as intellectual property protection, economic development facilitation framework and business arbitration framework which are usually not covered in conventional FTAs; it was signed by the 11 countries in March 2018.
