On the first Saturday of July 2021, an MPIA taskforce including the President and Vice President held a meeting to discuss some urgent industry issues including the depletion of Net Offset Virtual Aggregation (NOVA) quota under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme.
NOVA is a sub-programme under the NEM 3.0 and participated mainly by energy consumers in the commercial and industrial sectors. Upon its commencement in April 2021, all the 300 MW allocated for NOVA were fully applied in July 2021.
The taskforce decided to propose for more NOVA quota to be allocated to accommodate the more investment of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in the country. The proposal was later directed via a letter to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources as well as the Minister of Finance for Budget 2022.
