On 17 January 2021, the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and MPIA held an online meeting to discuss collective effort by both parties to drive adoption of solar energy in the country.
The meeting was attended by, among others, FMM President Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai, FMM Energy & Utilities Management Committee Chairman Steven Aroki, FMM Sustainable Development Committee Chairman Juan Aranols, FMM CEO Dr Yeoh Oon Tean.
On the other hand, the MPIA attendees include President Chin Soo Mau, Vice President Tunku Akmaludin Zakri, as well as advisors Shadzli A. Wahab and Dato Ali Askar.
During the meeting, Chin pointed out that that despite the COVID-19 pandemic and economic slowdown, businesses were keen on solar photovoltaic (PV) system investment, with 70% of the 500 MW quota under NEM 2.0 taken in year 2020, and the majority takers were from the commercial and industrial sectors.
