MPIA Solar Roadshow 2020-2021

9 September 2020

Following the relaxation of restriction on public events amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the MPIA Solar Roadshow 2020-2021 finally kicked off on 9 September 2020.

MPIA President Chin Soo Mau said the event has an important role in bringing together representatives from the authorities and the solar industry to disseminate truthful information about application of solar energy, including the policy, technical and financial aspects related to installation of solar PV systems on the roofs of our premises, which have been identified by the government as an avenue to achieve our national renewable energy target.

“The government has revealed that there are close to 3.8 million buildings in the country which can potentially be installed with solar PV systems to harvest free solar energy, but we estimate that only less than 12,000 buildings are installed with solar PV systems for electricity consumption, that number is far away from even the 1% of the 3.8 million. In comparison, in Australia, a country with a smaller population than Malaysia, there are more than 2 million buildings installed with solar PV systems.”

Including Selangor, there are totally seven locations planned for the roadshow, which is scheduled to take place until April 2021.
